Stopped in on our way to Macon and we were pleasantly surprised. They seemed very busy but got us seated quickly. The inside looks like an old cabin and the food was amazing.

We had dinner at JoMax. Jo Max has changed hands a couple of times, & not always to its betterment! However, it now seems much more like the original JoMax than it had for a couple of years! I had chicken & my date had ribs. Both were very good. Well prepared & flavorful. Ticket times were short, & service was good! Hopefully JoMax I returning to it original self. Thoroughly enjoyed this visit, & will be back.
A rustic cabin which fits the BBQ theme well. When you walk in it's not obvious how it works. There are people seated and there is a line of people ordering. Order and find a seat I thought. Wrong. After standing around confused I saw others enter and go right to a table. That cleared up I sat down and was greeted by the sweetest server on the planet. Nothing fake here, Just a genuine sweetheart. Food is good, however brisket is cut too thick for my taste, so next time chopped. Pricing is what you'd expect certainly not cheap. A legit option off of I-16.
Stopped here on a road trip for lunch. Service was friendly and fast. Food was reasonably priced and delicious!
Wonderful BBQ, with a friendly considerate staff. It's not in a very noticeable location in the back of the parking lot. However there were many there dining on delicious BBQ, a sign of a well like popular restaurant. Looking for a nice place for BBQ, we found Jomax BBQ through a local person's recommendation. It was highly recommended as a casual family style restaurant with great BBQ. We had not noticed Jomax BBQ in a general Yelp restaurant search, and did not see any great BBQ recommendation in that nonspecific restaurant search. I highly recommend stopping by, just as it was recommended to me. Glenn
Great find along the interstate. Fine barbecue and the sides and service were good too.
I highly recommend this restaurant. They have the very best vegetables along with all other great foods they cook. Their steaks are so absolutely delicious!!! Please go visit this restaurant.
A bit disappointed that they didn't have Brisket tonight; none the less, the Pulled-Pork was very good. We were pleasantly surprised by the large portion sizes and everything came out fresh and piping hot! The Onion Rings are possibly the best I've ever had. The service was OUTSTANDING! Our server was very friendly and hospitable. I do wish they had a few options regarding the bar-b-q sauce as there is one kind "only"..... Attached is a photo of what I'm TAKING HOME with me AFTER EATING UNTIL I WAS FULL at the restaurant this evening. OH MY!!!! I wasn't kidding when I stated that the portions are large!!!
Jomax gets its name from the owner's combined names- Joe and Maxine. They've been serving up BBQ for over 30 years at this pit stop. Do yourself a favor and skip the fast food restaurants for a local, small town favorite. It's easy to see why this restaurant made The Best Barbecue Joints in Georgia list by Georgia Tourism & Travel. Today we enjoyed the bbq pork sandwich. This smokey, tender pork sandwich is served with sauce on the side. Also, do yourself another favor and order their onion rings! Oh my, hand-cut onions fried crispy and absolutely delicious! You can't eat just one! I will return when traveling through Metter - where everything is Better!
